Host parents

Becoming a host parent at Home from Home

At Thuis van Huis, you'll receive personalized guidance, and we're committed to you as a childminder and everything that entails. We take your work seriously and ensure you can do what you do best: provide children with safe, warm, and loving care.

We help with administration (invoicing, collections, and annual statements) and your registration in the National Childcare Register (LKR). Then we find the right match with children and parent(s) who are a good fit for you. You focus on the children, and we'll take care of the rest.

Our working method: step-by-step guidance

We will guide you step by step, so you can start or continue as a childminder without any worries.

1. Registration

You register with us as a (future) childminder. We'll contact you for a personal introductory meeting.

2. Introduction and preparation

We'll discuss your needs, experience, and options. Together, we'll determine what suits you best and whether you already meet the (legal) requirements.

3. Registration & control

We'll work with you to conduct a risk assessment, ensure all documentation is in order, and submit the application for registration with the municipality. The Municipal Health Service (GGD) will then visit your home for an inspection and interview. After approval, your location will be registered in the National Childcare Register (LRK). This will be followed by an annual Risk Assessment and Evaluation (RIE) and, if necessary, an inspection by the GGD.

4. We look for the right match!

We're looking for families that match your childcare style. As soon as we find a good match, we can begin caregiving.

5. Guidance and evaluation

Even after the initial start, we remain involved. You can always contact us for questions, consultations, or support. We strive to maintain high quality and believe it's important that our host parents continue to develop. That's why we offer various theme evenings, online training courses, and pediatric first aid. We conduct an annual evaluation and are always available to assist you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I become a childminder?

You must be at least 18 years old, have a relevant diploma (at least MBO-2 level), a pediatric first aid certificate, and a Certificate of Good Conduct. We'll help you with every step of the registration process. Don't meet the requirements yet? Ask us about the options, and we'll be happy to help.

  • What does Home from Home do for me?

We handle administration, billing, and connect families. We also offer personal guidance, support, training, and theme nights.

  • How much can I earn as a childminder?

You set your own hourly rate, usually between €7.50 and €8.50 per hour per child. We're happy to advise you on what's common in your area.

  • What if I'm sick or going on holiday?

You can let us know, and we'll find a replacement childminder. There are no extra charges for this.

  • Do I have to be self-employed?

Yes, you'll be self-employed, but with the security and support of our agency. It's not necessary to register with the Chamber of Commerce, although it does offer some tax advantages.

  • What if I work at the family's home on location?

If you work as a childminder at home, you're working under the so-called "home service" model. This is a different type of employment relationship than when you care for children in your own home.

This means you're entitled to wages during illness and vacation. However, you won't accrue social security contributions (such as unemployment benefits or pensions), as this scheme is specifically designed for work performed in and around the parent's home.

You and your parents should agree on working hours, hourly rates, and tasks in a written agreement. Childcare agency Thuis van Huis is happy to help you put these agreements clearly and accurately in writing, so everything is arranged properly for both parties.
