Calculating your childcare allowance

The 2026 childcare allowance table (see the government website) shows you how much childcare allowance (KOT) you are entitled to in 2026. It also includes a link to a calculation tool for a trial calculation.

Maximum number of hours of childcare allowance

The maximum number of hours of childcare for which parents can receive childcare allowance remains 230 hours per child per calendar month, multiplied by the number of months in which you (or you and your partner) work.

If you and your partner have worked for 12 months in a calendar year, you are entitled to 230 hours x 12 months = 2,760 hours of childcare allowance.

This is based on the number of months worked by the person who worked the least. The number of hours you actually worked is no longer relevant. You must still meet the legal requirements applicable to you (employment/training/integration program).

The accrued right can be withdrawn spread over the calendar year.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Am I, as a parent, eligible for childcare allowance if the care is arranged through you?

Yes. If you meet the requirements, you are eligible. This is because we only work with registered childminders.

Parents can apply for childcare allowance from the Tax and Customs Administration via My Allowances. Apply within three months of the first day of childcare.

You can read exactly how it works and what conditions apply on the government's website.

  • How much childcare allowance can I get?

On the Toeslagen website, you can make a sample calculation of your childcare allowance for 2026. This allows you to calculate exactly how much childcare allowance you can receive for your specific situation. To calculate this, you'll need your childcare provider's hourly rate and your income assessment. The hourly rate at which you can receive childcare allowance consists of the childminder's hourly rate plus the Thuis van Huis agency fees.

  • Do I have to reapply for the allowance every year?

No, but you must report changes in income, hourly rate, or care hours to the Tax Authorities immediately.

  • Can I apply for an allowance for multiple children?

Yes, that's possible. You can apply for a separate allowance for each child cared for by a registered childminder.
